John (“John”) P. Townsend is a sixth generation native Floridian, born and raised in north central Florida.  John attended the University of Florida where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and his Juris Doctorate (law degree) from the University of Florida’s College of Law. 

John has lived, and practiced law, in the Florida Panhandle since 1981, and is licensed to practice in all Florida state courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida, and in the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.  John is a Florida Bar Board Certified Specialist in Condominium and Planned Development Law. His law practice has been almost completely in the civil area, including general representation of community associations, representation of individuals in personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death claims, contract disputes, marital and family law, and real estate litigation.

John’s practice has included, and for the last fourteen years has focused primarily on, representation of community associations as general counsel for condominium and homeowners associations and in handling the various matters that those associations encounter.  This has included, for example, construction contract disputes, construction defect and insurance claims, covenant enforcement matters, contract negotiation and preparation, and a number of other matters.

John is a current and active member of the North Gulf Coast Chapter of the Community Association Institute, Past Chapter President (President in 2017), and he is currently serving on the Chapter’s Board of Directors. He has been, and is, active in professional and local civic matters, having served as President of the Okaloosa-Walton Bar Association, as a member of the Florida Bar Continuing Education Committee, as a member of the Okaloosa County Law Library Board of Trustees, as District Chairman of the Choctawhatchee District of the Boy Scouts of America, and is a member of Crosspoint United Methodist Church in Niceville.
